The question is asked based on the game's title and some of the artwork, which is apparently pointing to a more medieval or middle ages inspired design.

With games like Dota and LoL not really having a single and united lore or storyline, crazy heroes can be plunged into the game, from the Chinese folklore hero Wukong to Rome-inspired gladiators to aliens and whatnot.

Let's discuss :D

Not sure what there is to discuss. However, LoL did have a lore behind all their orginal heroes, and many news ones. That keep a maintained a connected lore. However, yes that is one thing I did not care for DoTa about, they just brought whatever they wanted too then made a lore around it. Thats one issue I had

Anyway, once we see this game and everything one of the first things I will spent time with is the lore. Gives me a sense of the world and everything.

Detailed Lore as a background is always a plus for any game, though its usually tied into the main story line so that players are introduced to it as part of the experience. I'm interested to see where SOADA take theirs, maybe a overarching theme with the the custom AI scenarios?

As to hero design, who knows? My guess would be that they'll come out of a consistant universe of Ironclad's making.

I think that LoL's variety in champion design is terrific, and I don't think SoDA should be very limited in terms of a Hero's visual design. Besides, we don't really have a complete understanding of their art design, as only three pieces have been released. I bet there will be more variety as Ironclad shows more of the game.

Not one of us will be able to determine this for sure but the vibe I am getting from what we know already makes me think that there won't be bizzare or "out of place" heroes created. LoL's lore did open them up to a very wide selection of hero types to be used. If I am guessing right, I don't think SoDA devs will venture past the realms of medieval fantasy based characters. (Much like Dungeons and Dragons)

LoLs lore can be a little bit crazy and jarring. To the point where I mostly ignore it.

Every character relates back to the lore and a specific alternate universe time period. The technologies of the time will be consistent. I can guarantee you are not going to see any silly anachronisms.

You misunderstood. There is only one alternate universe and it is the universe in which the game resides. It is a medeival high fantasy universe in which there are no robots.

Note that this really doesn't in any way limit the mechanics of heroes since we have magic. Merely the flavor and backstory.

Ah, that's unfortunate. I like the diversity of champions in League from a design point.

In terms of restrictions as to skill set, I hope this game doesn't approach the game with the narrow mindset that the League design team has taken (i.e. few creative skills and nothing outside the design team's comfort zone).
