Well aren't you the friendly one Ian. I'm 26, Canadian and about to graduate law school (this April). I was a diamond tier Starcraft 2 player and a platinum ELO League of Legends player. I'm pretty stoked on this game as it combines my two favourite genres (and is nostalgically similar to some maps I used to play in WC3 and the original Starcraft). Looking forward to playing with you all when this game comes out!

Some of you may know me from the SoaSE community (Stant123 over there too).  With Rebellion requiring steam, and my refusal to deal with Steam until Valve's treatment of customers changes, my time there is pretty much at an end.  Fortunately, this game was announced to the public and it sounds like it's more my style of game anyway.

Long time (and when I say that I mean more then 25 years experience) pen and paper D&D player so RPG's, fantasy, adventure, and most MMO's are my favorite styles of games.  Looking forward to trying this game out this weekend when I have some free time.  Should be a blast.

Hey Stant!
Has it been confirmed that Rebellion will be on steam?
and what is this about Valve's treatment of customers? from my and all of my friends experience it has been great!

This weekend? I think you have a bit of a wait yet to go for now ;) haha Beta isn't scheduled to start until Summer.

I have to say, almost everyone who has posted in this thread is some uni student..I feel odd being probably the only non-student here haha.
Platinum ELO? isn't that just a style of play where you feel the need to have a jungle, solo-top, AD carry, support/tank and an AP in mid?

I am sure we shall meet up on the battlefield at some point, be it as allies or enemies! rawr! ^.^

It's been confirmed Rebellion will require Steam for install, updates, and multiplayer, so yes, it will be on Steam.

Valve (Steam) treats it's customers as criminals first, gamers second.  For most people it doesn't matter and everything works out just fine for them, for others like me, it does matter.  Have had 2 accounts locked and banned because I'm a modder and a tinkerer and I play with files a lot.  They don't like that, assume you're hacking to pirate the game or something rather then just play with stuff to make things more interesting for yourself, and they drop the ban hammer and refuse to listen to explanations.  So I won't deal with them or have anything to do with their stuff until that little policy of theirs changes.  My personal choice, I don't rant about it, I'm not crusading against them, I think a lot of the features they provide are worthwhile and quality, I just won't be a part of it at this time is all.

Yeah this weekend.  You don't have your access yet?  ;P

I actually hadn't read that, I just stopped on by, looked at what kind of a game it was, registered on the forums, and posted.  So instead of playing, I guess I'll be taking the time to read up on everything and get caught up on everything instead.  No biggie.

I hate the stereotype that valve treats customers bad. First and for most I have over 160 games bought via steam and I have never ever had a problem with them. The one time I did have a problem with them they were forthright and quick in dealing with an issue I did have. Secondly I run modified .dll files for steam and have done so for over a year without a ban, I have changed files in the .exe even in the steam.exe itself. So in all fairness, I would say I have had no issues and spent thousands of dollars with them.  So the

I believe this is hateful and biased. Simple because neither I nor the 20 something odd people I know who use steam to buy games has never had an issue or been banned, and I know for certain half of them mod their games. So yes, I view this as statement as a "crusade". As I feel this does not do the issue service, or even help give real feedback that may cause them too offer their games in other mediums.

As too it being steam required, I am for that, it won't stop piracy in the least but it helps provide servers and hosting issues for the game, makes the distribution easier and even opens more markets. So yes, I am all for the use of steam.

*PS: Not a Uni studednt. I don't really have and lofty goals of seeking a overpriced "higher" education.

That's actually why I don't play ranked anymore - too boring with that meta being insisted on by the majority of players. I generally just play roaming nunu in normal or botlane poppy. Platinum (while referencing the ranked elo system obviously) is more of an indication of overall skill rather than adhering to a specific strategy. Normal mode has elo just like ranked - the only difference is its not displayed and there is a wider berth in matchmaking. Anyways, thanks for the greeting.

haha no, I don't have it yet ;) would be jealous if you did though!

Ahh I have never played ranked at all. im nowhere near that good and nor are most of my friends who play it (and if we fail one of then just rages like the Incredible Hulk)
Nunu is a pain in the ass :P love him when played right on my team but hate him to pieces when played well on the enemy team.
The champions I hate playing against are: Sion, Brand and Morgana (Corki to an extent)

It seems like there are some good personalities and experianced gamers as well as some more casual players as well already here.

I guess I'm like most of you, already a fan of Sins of a solar empire, long time player of warcraft and starcraft. I saw dota evolve into what it is now, beyond other maps like eota, tob, and others. Though I tended more to the old Orp maps which almost don't exist anymore. I've stayed away from LoL, though a friend or two have tried to drag me into it. I'm waiting to see what awesomeness will evolve here.

SC? SupCom or StarCraft?
What music genre is it that you are working with/on?

Starcraft. I have over a gigabyte of UMS maps for it. Even though a good 98% of it isn't really very good, it is fun to play through to discover those few gems that turn out to be really fun to play.

I guess I'm studying classical music? It's hard to pin it down really. I play electric bass and have done so with jazz bands as well as rock bands (and metal once, though I'm not a huge fan of the genre myself). My main instrument is the violin, which I play in the orchestra as well as a solo instrument. As I learn more about the standard Western music tradition, I find myself more and more attracted to the Romantic and Neo-Romantic (here I go with jargon :P ) styles. Seeing as movie music (and video game music now too) is essentially a continuation of the Romantic style, that's where I'd like to end up. The first step, of course, is figuring out how to break into the music writing scene, which is something that I have no idea how to do just yet. But, until I figure that part out, I can definitely work up my chops writing stuff on the side and learning more about music, whether that's pop music, commercial music, or whatever iteration of modern music the "hip" composers are up to these days.

That is alot of skill playing instruments haha :D

Orp maps?
And howcome you have stayed away from LoL? it's alot better than HoN in my experience :)

Open RPG, the original maps were based around one of two play styles, a Civ builder or a hero. Many maps had varying areas with respawning creatures, locations for building up empires, end map bosses and artifacts and of course epic pvp between empires with heros swaying the battle with their raw strenth. The fun you had depended completely on the players, sometimes there were hourlong epic wars, other times empires would back the heros to take down all the end content and the nigh impossible to kill bosses. But often they were fun,

As for why I stayed away from LoL, simply because I had/have too many other games to play at current. I used to be a hardcore Wow endgame and pvp player, now I'm more casual. I was also involved in a freelancer corp and was catching up on dragon age/mass effect.. All while dabbling in SoSe games both modded and unmodded.

Now I find myself waiting for mass effect 3, still a casual Wow player, and I ping a few other games still aside from warcraft. I gotta say this one has pequed my interest.

Hey Martian! :D who isn't a huge SoaSE fan? it's a beautiful game with only 1 drawback = no campaign! but still has enough to love it haha. I didn't and still haven't played any Diablo game! :( I really did not enjoy WoW though I do love Warcraft 2+3 :)
Join the waiting club with Rebellion ;D I read a preview on the titan ships before and wow..they look like they will hurt alot.

Hi IanD967,

I dont really mind it not having a campaign, it would be nice but doesnt bother me.  I dont enjoy Wow enough to pay monthly for it, and even then i find it too fluffy and colourful.  Its nice to look at, i suppose i could say visually impressive in some areas of the forests with the light through the trees but thats about all it has going for it in my eyes.
I have Warcraft 2 and 3 :) they are good games! But its all about Diablo 2 with the Lords of Destruction Expansion, the better graphics mod and the chest expansion mod will have you up playing for months lol. Its an amazing game to play coop too.
Yeah the new video looks amazing! The Titans are massive! I cant wait to try the Vasari Rebels out :D

Ahhh see, now I can understand what attracts you to SoaDA hehe :) sounds alot like what this game is triyng to be with it's hybrid mechanic!

Ahh Freelancer, I miss that game. used to play on the Discovery RPG server which was really fun but after a few months of playing i realised it wasn't as deep as it tries to be and got really bored.
Mass Effect topples DA imo ;)

Ahh you see me? I think it's the one game I really wish did have a campaign story of some sort :) haha
I never did like WoW as the only time I played it no-one would team up and trying to solo as a Paladin was sooo stupidly hard it put me off it.
As I said elsewhere (cannot remember where) I have never played Diablo games :P I have played Titan Quest though and I have heard it was alot like Diablo.
I never did like playing the Asari as I have always loved the TEC but last time I played it I did enjoy playing the Advent :)

So I'm Seabiscuit (like the horse) History student studying at Lampeter in Wales (If you scratch your head at that your not the first)

Never really been active in forums and game community stuff like that really, if I talk to people it was usually  because I know them personally, but this forum seems much nicer than others I have seen and I'm just lounging around in bed all day so I thought "Why not!"

Games..... play a wide variety of them, not very good at any! the ones I'm playing at the moment are, LoL but only with a choice group of mates from home because I'm still learning and the few games I have played with random's end with abuse and frustration (ended up playing mid with Taric because everyone refused to play mid themselves. Love Total War, Pre-ordered The Fall of The Samurai, looks insane! played a bit of Tribes: Ascend but I feel its getting a bit stale for me now, I'm sure there's others I'm playing right now that I can't think of.

Music... anyone I like can't really say I have a genre that I prefer but to give you an idea.... Chevelle, 65daysofstatic, Shinedown, Arctic Monkeys, The Srokes... Ok so maybe a lot of is rock-ish kinda stuff but I'm open to suggestions :)

Like the idea of this game, and again the community seems stellar so far!

Hiya!

It's been a looooong time since I've even lurked a little on a forum, but with news of this game, thought I'd read up and get a little edge on the competition =^^=

My name is Michael and I usually go by Washuaddict wherever I go online. I play a bunch of games, just like the rest of ya! I play a lot of RTS's (but I'm no pro, I just like to play with my friends) and I do play a little League of Legends (not very much, but a match or two from time to time). I'm more likely to be seen playing CoD or Dynasty Warriors if you're on the PSN, but I dabble in fighters, racing games, action-RPG's, and puzzle games whenever I can.

As for the non-gamer details, I'm a 4th year university student studying Business and Information Security and one class away from my minor in History (Specifically, Middle Eastern History). I've also been studying Japanese and Game Development on the side. I fully intend to work hard to reach my goal of being part of developing a game, even if it's more business oriented than actual development. Outside of games, I enjoy playing tennis, watching the Dallas Mavericks, and hangin out with my friends and family.

I know I'm not the best player, but I'm always ready to help and have a good time!

がんばって下さい =^^=

Oh, Hello!!

My name is Edward. Im 22, and im from Spain (sorry if my english isn´t good or something : P). Im studying a degree of Speech Therapy (my first year) because i love all of that which involves voice treatment and that.

Why im here? because SoaSE. I do play games like LoL and SoaSE, but also I have some games at steam like Payday or Bejeweled. I´ve used to be a hardcore fan of Warcraft 3 and WoW. Not anymore. I´ve left WoW in Burning Crusade and returned in Cataclysm, and my disappointment was huuuuuge (so easy the grinding from 1 to 60)...

Because of a new computer ive bought in Summer 2011, im loving indie games so much, at the point that EVEN if i loved diablo 2, im having more faith in Torchlight 2 than Diablo 3.

Well and thats all u need to know! :D
