So for those who do not know, art has been being released on a daily basis in preparation for  the Game Developer Conference tomorrow where there will be a demonstration of Sins of a Dark Age gameplay. This teaser art can be seen from the community homepage.

My question to everyone is: what are your last second guesses about Sins of a Dark Age that you got from these teaser pictures? Also why would help add to the discussion.

What I got was it looks like the factions will be centered on two conflicting parties one is going to be empire-ish the other will be more death oriented. I got that there will be two main factions because the artwork seems to focus on two individuals one with golden armor, the other with stitched worn leather(?). The empire motif was drawn because of the golden armor seemed "royal"-ish. The death theme of the other faction was drawn from one of the recent pictures that appeared to show a skull shaped mask.

Keep in mind that these are guesses so don't be afraid to post your opinion of the artwork!

I would agree with you. 2 factions, Good vs Evil. Thats basically all I got lol. Sort of reminds me of Natural Slection and that game was hella fun.

Ahhh I had no idea!!

That would explain the "Ironclad Marketing" thread with all the random pictures (most of which are still that Orc guy on the left with big sword and 3 horned helmet)

You know what? that is EXACTLY what I thought too!
Empire/Imperial Royal Armour is pretty much what you expect for a Human Kingdom and obivously the Death-themed race is going to be their main opposition I am guessing.

Unless they are just art for 2 heroes that could be released and nothing to do with the factions themselfs?

That is entirely possible, in which case I spent a bit to much time typing :P
If they are just heroes, I am excited for the death theme: because not enough games seem to do that theme the justice it deserves.

Karthus in LoL did an AMAZING job for the Undead theme for me. He is an liche but a skin turns him into a rather awesome Grim Reaper. he even still lives for a while longer even when killed for a passive hehe.

I HOPE they are heroes and not faction-related because if it is the latter then it would be sort-of the generic fantasy thing going on, unless it turns out he Humans are bad guys and the Undead are coming back to life to fight back the Tyranny! that would be new (atleast to me) haha.

Dont hold your breath on the undead being the good guys lol. But they will probably be heroes rather than faction related.

Well, I just read a post in another thread where there will be alternative universe versions of the heroes/champions so it could be possible! :D (Think of it like the Justice League versus the Crime Sydicate)

I will admit that is a unique take of a story hahaha. Personally, I have always sided with the bad guys in shows and in games (though in RPG's I always do the uber-good route, oddly enough), and I love undead antagonists; I just have issue when people try to humanize them or the sorcerers behind them (what I am trying to get at is I like it when the undead faction are pure evil and strike terror into all).

Also, I agree that the heroes should not be limited to the factions because then you get into mirror heroes (I think people say this happened in the original dota[I never had the chance to play]) and hard counters(starcraft). I think heroes should be made kind of like dota all-stars and LoL in that they would fit the universe and back story but are not tied(in-game wise not necessarily lore wise) to a side. This lets cool strategies develop and lets players always play as their favorites.

On the counter point about factions; I am torn between them being similar for the commander(for balance) and being unique(flavor). This will likely be answered when we see the gameplay tomorrow!

Definitely new.. I don't think I've ever seen something like that before. I've seen the humans as the bad guys before, but usually it's from having a nature-based protaganist.

And unless being the bad guy simply makes things extremely difficult (Neverwinter Nights- was an incredible game, but gods forbid you got the urge to go on a homicidal rampage...), I've almost always been the bad guy. You should see me in Fable. The ground dies where I step. Women cringe, children run screaming... glorious...

And Elder Scrolls: Oblivion- I have mastered the technique of the flying sneak attack to the face. With Umbra. And sniping people right in front of the guards outside towns, then running away on my (stolen) horse. The Dark Brotherhood quest line was quite possibly the most fun I have ever had in a game.

Does anyone know EXACTLY when the game will be shown at GDC?

Hello Sinners,

There are a lot of questions being asked about how Soada plays so we are happy to say that for most of next week we will be giving lengthy demos to a non-stop flow of key media people at GDC. While we are restricting much of the content (pacing it out over the next few months), we will be showing a fully playable version. The goal is to have them understand the overarching gameplay and communicate that back to you in their own words.

So keep an eye on our facebook, twitter and website or your favorite news site as there will be a lot more information coming out during the next 2 weeks.

Blair

P.S If you or your friends haven't registered your game name yet, I would do so before the media blitz hits or you may risk not getting the name you want.

>> most of next week

[edit: make that this week.]

I just wanted to plug in my 2 cents of some of the concept art; seems a bit too gold and glittery, don't ya think? I like gold...

Its grim, dark and yet as if there is this hue of gold and brassiness to it, a very medieval feel and look to it.

I hope in game though the characters are easily distinguishable in team fights, cause i don't want it to be like HON where you can easily lose your character in particle and spell effects.

I'm leaning towards somewhere towards 2-4 possible factions or maybe 2 factions with group alliances where there are two factions with primary units which show up and the heros represent the allys of each faction and the faction itself. Classic good vs evil or Dark good vs evil vs nature depending. Or a combination thereof. I'm hoping the trend of keeping things simple, elegant, but with depth continues from Ironclads work. So pretty, a few flashes but overall absolutely functional without negative impact on gameplay. Because at the end of the day its all about the gameplay.

And with the most resent picture released, my theory kinda falls apart.... It looks like they are either 2 heroes or 2 commanders. Though.... they may signify nontraditional factions and are models of a certain types of troops.

@OP I think people need too read a bit more. We will have a wide variety of factions and creatures too play.

@Sayan Yep, that was discussed in another topic.  However yes I do find a little too much of it too be shiny.

@Mithdravg Based on what has been said no..We will not be limited too three or four factions. We will be looking at a new faction on with additional content. Maybe not ever patch, but likely we will get a wide variety of factions over time.
