The commander role seems to be the most important role in this game, with his control of the map and the creeps. Also, seeing as how important creeps are now, what is the purpose of the heroes? The only true roles I can see for them are pushing/counter-pushing heroes, that are focused on aoe-type attacks that kill creeps quickly to allow pushes; and carries, heroes used to directly kill these pushing heroes. How much of an impact will heroes actually make on the game, if they are not truly the focus of the game as they are in traditional MOBAs?

In short they were "capital ships". Based on what they said, a hero will be able too cut down entire walls of minions on their own. While at other times will be useless at the hands of a wall of minions. They clearly will have defined roles. S

Another way the heroes will be important is the gold. Heroes basically go forth and get extra gold from killing wild creeps/ intercepting gold caravans. So instead of a starcraft2 build where players know how much they can optimise their resourse intake, this will have random increases depending upon how good the heroes bring in the money.

I guess we'll all have to wait for a full game of SoaDA to b posted, so we can all examine the footage. Everything still seems a little nebulous, at least to me, as to how everything works.

I just don't want heroes to be boring to play. I trust the devs to make the game (why would you build a game that isn't fun?) but I rally want to see a full game in action myself.

i think it really will mimic LoL and other dots games in the sense that you will have pushers, assassins, support etc with far more power compared to minions in LoL due to their commander and strategy. but i am curious to see what an all pusher team would play out as....

Well there won't be any real "pushing" as we know in most MOBA games today since this is more RTS.

Chance are they will be like the heroes in Warcraft 3 only instead of 1 person controlling alot of them it will be 1 player per hero and the commander focuses completly on the RTS aspect.

i mostly hope the commander role isnt too overpowered, i hope a good group of heroes can win a game against a slightly less good group with a better commander. putting a 20-40 minute game almost entirely in the hands of 1 person in a group of 5 players would be really bad. but i trust ic will get that balanced (with some help in beta perhaps).

and indeed pushing isnt that relevant because there wont be minions running back and forth from base to base, it would be more relevant to discuss existing rts strategies like something similar to a zergling rush or a terran tank push. depending on the heroes and the minions created by the commander. i imagine the strategies played in this game would be based on that more than on moba type strategies.
