The title says it all.  I thought RTS was all but dead. I Had no hope of anything like this coming out in the current  world of executive driven gaming decisions that are all about money and what some suit and tie wearing NOOB thinks is going to sell.  "Smaller is better" says the executives.  We want you to have LESS choices, LESS units, LESS base building.   Its better this way.  Yeah Right!!!  If anyone knows how to make a game BIG, its the folks that made Sins.  I have high hopes for this game, because DoTA/AoS and RTS games are my favorites!  I havent played a real good RTS in forever!  Also the idea that you will have a team of 4 with hero units and a commander, THAT is real ingenuity!  Not like the watered down, cookie cutter, pasturized, homogenized games that so called "developers" are pumping out today.  WCIII was a dissapointment for me, they reduced the number of units you could control, and made defense practically worthless.  Then with what they did to DoW II, complete failure.   Less is more they say.  Well guess what,

Welcome to the forums Gary!

I agree with every point you made except the DoW II one. I enjoyed that game except for when they updated and I forgot my Live password so I had to quit. Glad to see you're excited for this game, hope to see you in the beta!

Agreed, its nice to see a dev take a risk, and make something something different. I understand why they don't, due to the financial risks of not selling sequel, but its still great to see something new. Better yet, its even better to be provided an opportunity to a part of something from the ground up (player-wise).

Amen to more is better brother, however i don't know about trends of less is more. Then again I was out of the RTS loop for some time after Age of Empires 2. However one game that got more units rather than less was Starcraft 2. Then again the static defenses of that game just suck, unless you're protoss. Which defences are a important part of stratedgy.

Hi, its me again, can we get a referal link system setup so we can invite people to the beta? Maybe you guys should have a contest for beta invites? When I was in the LOL beta they had weekly raffles and contests for beta invites and they also had a referal link system tied into their in-game store, so the more people we referred, the more prizes we unlocked, are you guys planning anything like that?

I like free goodies ;)

Although its self serving to do so, I agree with this. This would be a great idea. :)

Welcome to the forums Gary :D

I quite like DoWII just simply for the Last Stand mode :D I hope Ironclad are able to put that gamemode into this game somehow. I think it would be great ^_^

WC3 I also thought was good, though I didn't complete it (I was introduced to the world of MMO's via City of Heroes halfway through the campaign :D quite liked WC3's humor. especially the Undeads.

And they've confirmed a Last Stand mode for SoaDA. Or were you thinking a DoW II Last Stand clone?

Got a link to that? :o but I actually did mean a clone of it really. 3 heroes, arena of death, waves of different creatures coming for you with other heroes that you don't pick as the bosses heroes. :)

It's in the media section, one fo the videos talked about it. They said they would have a main objective fully destructible castle controlled and defended by the players, as well as side objectives. I think it was the interview on the left in the media section, but I'm not sure.

Ahh that is quite similar and I did know about that one but I just meant without a castle to defend and your main objective is to try and survive 20 waves where to win the wave you have to fight an impossible wave of powerful units and all previous champions you have fought and killed :)

I would like to make a few notes here about some things that I have read posted in this thread.   #1, Thank You for the welcomes!    Beyond that, there were some things said about WCIII and DoWII and I think people may have missed my point.  Sure, WCIII was polished, but it was SMALL.  The unit cap was small.  The static defenses were a joke. Compared to WCII it just felt scaled down, which is exactly what they wanted to do with that game.  MORE tactical, less defensive they said.   DoWII, no base building or defenses because someone told them that RTS players didnt like those aspects of an RTS.  Lol.  Sure the last stand is great, but that mode alone doesnt make up for what they did to it.   The point is, the game companys have this schematic of what a game has to be, what it has to have, and they have forgotten what a game is for in the first place: to have fun!!!  I have high hopes for this game.

As far as some modes, the last stand sounds great.  As well as a castle Def/Seige.   One team gets to defend, and one team gets to siege.  Anyone remember the WCIII map Helms Deep?  :)
