Any hopes of having a single player component so that new players can train up against (and with) AI bots? Anyone else like this idea?

They already confirmed this if I remember right. Haven't watched the interviews in a while though.

EDIT: Welcome to the forums!

I was thinking about this topic recently, and I would like to encourage the release of a 'bot match' or Player versus AI mode in the game.

The fact that LoL is the most popular (in terms of millions of people playing) at the moment is, to a certain degree, due to the fact that they allow people to play versus bots.

We may be seasoned MOBA players, but for the millions of people who are just starting, this style of game can be impenetrable. Putting a 'bot match' into the public release of this game may be the secret sauce that makes it popular and profitable. Look at Hon...no botmatch, and not so profitable. Is it a coincidence? I tried playing that once. I had to play PvP, and was deluged with verbal abuse from players calling me a dirt bag. These types of games are deep and complex and take a lot of practice.

Is it the no bot match, or is it that league of legends has an endless grind treadmill that people love so much

(aka skinnerbox)

Why the hate for League? Either way, whether or not it has an endless treadmill, other MOBAs do as well, and they generally are worse than League. I personally think it's the slow "speed" of their "treadmill," comparatively of course, that sets it apart.

our spiritual hamburger here has a good point, i was a complete noob when i started LoL (prob still am) and the bot games made it an enjoyable game for me for a while. i knew i didnt want to go pvp, because i knew i would suck. i wasnt even worried about the haters in the game, but more about sucking in general.

the only problem there was that for quite a while i didnt want to start the pvp games because i figured i would be better off playing bot games until i felt i knew about the game. some dude i met in those bot games warned me about going pvp at a very late stage and then having to play against ppl who had played pvp from the get-go... so i started pvp'ing at about lvl 20... i still have a friend in LoL (also on steam now and he's the dude that told me about soada) who wants to hook up with me for lol because he has made that mistake.

i guess the point is that single player training is a good thing but new players should also be encouraged to play pvp.

Yeah I share the same experience with Murdeoc.

I didn't PvP until I was level 13 on LoL and I am just a little better at PvP now than what I was (I am level 30 with 290+ wins with roughly the same amount of losses)

The bot games are definantly a good thing to have since people can play it at their own rate instead of being peer-pressured into doing stuff they don't want to at bad times leading to everyone getting killed and everyone just insulting each other.
PvP on the other hand ultimatly makes you better at the game since it's fighting against an intelligent player makes you think on your feet to think of new strategies aswell as fights that mean something (for example you are almost dead and 3 bots are chasing you until you run into a bush next to them then they just run off wheras players woulden't stop and would kill you)

I agree bot games are a pretty essential feature in order to ease new players into the game and even just to have for testing stuff out. I was amazed at how good the AI bots are in Dota2 though - they really use teamwork really well and are actually more of a challenge than many human players (at lower ranks anyway).  Compared to most RTS AI I've played against, the Dota2 bots were little Einsteins.

While that's very true Ekko, I also thought the Intermediate bots on LoL were "crackbots" until I got more experienced. You'll probably look back at this moment when you're more experienced and say, "How were they tough?"

Yes bots can teach you a lot. Like chasing rules, combination orders of abilities, limitations of player spells, and in general allow people to get used to the power of a champion and it's limits.

However I do agree that bots can't teach you everything. One needs to play players to get better at on-the-fly strategy changes. Also to predict human behavior is hard too emulate in bots due to randomness, ballsy, and sometimes plain flat out stupidity of players and thier choices.

I think these kind of games have a status kw-oh of tutorials and co-op bot modes, its becoming the standard in this genre and if you don't have it when it launches then you aren't doing it right, amirite?

i think to encourage people to play PvP you should just make the rewards bigger so that when people really get into the game they will play that the majority of the time to earn the most monies:)

Actually that is kinda bad game design from the get go, ideally any developer is trying to make money: by increasing the rate of rewards you are decreasing the rate of profit, its marketing 101. Plus how do you ecpect Iron Clad to make any money what so ever if they keep increasing rewards, they got to eventually pay their dev team and that's when they will have no choice but to deflate the rate of rewards at some point, it happens in all free to play games.

I wouldn't expect anything less,

I have a friend who played PvP for a while, but then went back to playing bot matches pretty exculsively. It seems more relaxing to him, I guess. You have to figure, there are actually millions of people who are just happier playing bot matches.

Personally, I find them a bit dull in LoL, but I'd rather play bots in Battlefield games, because I SUCK so badly at FPS!
I think everyone likes to kill little pixelated bad guys, but not everyone can be a pro. Bot matches are a great way for everyone to have fun playing a product.
My friend, who now only plays bot matches, has spent about 400 dollars on LoL skins too, so it's good for the game developers too, to accept all comers, and not lock out people who are hard core enough.

i agree with ghosthamburger and would like to add that increasing rewards is relative, you just have to have bigger rewards for pvp play then for bot games... why would that decrease profits? the devs can simply take the amount of reward they want to give for pvp and decrease it for bot games. no loss there then right?

But then that would also be punishing those who don't wish to PvP and would just want to play bot matches all the time regardless of how much encouragment they get to try it.

LoL already does this. One doesn't get all of the bonuses that the pvp matches provide, but you're pretty much guaranteed a win. Maybe it actually evens out.

For me, having bot matches is a necessity. It allows one to learn new champs, and escape the trolling found in PvP.

I'm one of these people. =P I find them much more relaxing so I really do hope to see a bot system in play.
