From IGN.com: We sit down with Blair from Ironclad Games to talk about how the role of the player Commander in the upcoming MOBA/RTS hybrid Sins of a Dark Age. Video

From Anthony Gallegos of IGN.com: After several expansions in the Solar Empire franchise, Ironclad is finally expanding its catalog with Sins of a Dark Age, a fantasy-inspired title that combines the real-time strategy (RTS) and multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genres. First shown earlier this year, substantial changes have been implemented since. The core remains the same, though: two teams of six players face off to see who can crush the other side’s base.

The primary way Sins of a Dark Age separates itself from the competition is its player Commander. Five players on each team play heroes in a traditional MOBA fashion, while one person per team plays Sins as an RTS. Last time we saw Sins the Commander had to do typical RTS actions like build bases, harvest resources, and construct units, but all that’s been completely reworked. Now Commanders don’t build bases at all, and instead start off with a pre-made town. Resources aren’t harvested from the earth, but are earned by killing enemies and capturing resource nodes scattered throughout the map. Full Article

Thank you! this really does inform us alot about what's happened with the commander since we last heard especially about the removal of building bases.

So the commander gameplay is a bit like World in Conflict, but with Company of Heroes's resource acquistion?

Not sure if I like this catering towards the MOBA side of the game in terms of depth/complexity, but I remain hopeful things are better in practice.

Also, I figured the 4v4 Heroes would be up to 5v5 (for 6v6). It would be harder for variation in even numbers.

Whoops...I just added the same vid to the IGN thread. All I can say is that I'm even more excited about the game. I'm glad that these changes were implemented....

I agree, maybe they should be more creative than just plain hedges, maybe if they have a desert map, they could have tumble weeds and cactus's or fissures or geysers if its a mountain range map or grassland, hell they could have mangroves if its a swamp map, or hell they can have big mushrooms to hide in, I'm pretty sure they can get creative with a lot of ideas...
