i actually wanted to start this topic to tip off ian about the movie stakeland, it might just be the one about vampires you like. nothing shiny or suave about them, it's basically a zombie movie only they are vampires...

but when i was typing a title to this extend i figured it's far more interesting to just invite everyone to talk about movies, so which ones did you see recently and liked?

i loved avengers, but thats an easy score so ill give you some other names:

- dark city (dont spoil the ending for me, long story there)
- the road
- zombieland
- AI
- moon
- amelie
- little miss sunshine

these are just some titles that sticked with me for one reason or the other, i have some more great ones in mind, but i can't figure out the titles just now...

When I really like a movie, I watch it again and again
-dark city = classic.
-the road: might as well read the book but the movie is very good too.
-moon = one of my fav.  So underrated tho. I love every movie with Clint Mansell's OST

May I add:

-Requiem for a dream (Clint Mansell's awesome and wonderful music)
-V for Vendetta
-Old Boy (Corean)
-The Salton Sea
- Gattaca
- Strange Days
-The Machinist
-Enter the Void
-...

OMG! I could go on and on and on :)

Favorite Movie(s): Indian Jones (all of them). I just loved the idea of a hero that didn't have any special fighting skills, had some cool one liners, and didn't have a special power. All of that...and he still managed to save the day/world.

Jurassic Park (1): this movie brought back my childhood. Like many a child, I always imagined what these dinosaurs actually looked like....what they ate...how they moved...etc. To my surprise, the movie outdid any of my wildest imaginings, even if the books were technically better...

Matrix: I saw this around 8 times in the movie theater. One word...EPIC. This movie forever influenced action movies that came after...

What I'm looking forward to seeing: Prometheus. Alien prequel? Enough said.

requiem for a dream shouldve been in my list too, but its always too hard to think of all the good movies youve seen... but a lot of the movies in your list i don't know sophie, but that is a good thing... now i don't have to be bored until the beta comes out!

and i'd like to point out little miss sunshine in there, a brilliant yet somewhat sad, even a bit dark roadmovie... i find it hard to describe it, so just go watch it plz.

and i loved the indiana jones movies, even the last one. jurassic park was cool, but the matrix messed up after the first one for me...

holy ****, so many movies and so much to say (about the ones i know)

@ ian, 28 days was prob the best zombie movie ive seen
cloverfield was one of the worst movies i ever saw, paranormal activity wasnt good either.
but silent hill i own and watch every now and again (i am still trying to get into the older games) , kick-ass and saving private ryan could have been in my list too.
maybe its an age thing, but i dont like older/ slower movies that much, a friend of mine does and he showed/ learned/ taught me a lot of things and in that respect (kind of replying to you about the original italian job, the old batmans and the thing) i can give you:
fistfull of dollars (trilogy)
straw dogs , indeed the original
antichristo (lars von trier i think)

district 9 i loved but ive had a lot of conversation about it with friends and i feel the reactions of it are very similar to those to starship troopers and AI... either you see a point being made or not.

@maiden, agree with all although i had to look up jason statham on imdb to be sure, but idd ****** and lock stock especially... makes me think of rock'n rolla (was that guy ritchie again?)

i still want more post-apocaliptic/ zombie invasion/ supernatural movies done right.

edit: why is sn.atch being censured? its an actual movie title...
maybe worth another thread? anyway, you now have reason to allow the word ******

I'm gonna go see Snow White and the Huntsman today. Charlize Theron is underrated IMO. I'll give a review grade soon.

Oops...didn't make it. I'll probably see it tomorrow at a matinee. I did see The Sitter tonight though, and I recommend it. I'd give it a solid 82. There were plenty of funny moments, and I'm definitely starting to enjoy seeing Johah on the big screen. Netflix or redbox it if you can...it shouldn't disappoint.

Hmm... weird, I just watched Dark City for the first time last night, thought it was pretty awesome. Also saw The Machinist for the first time as well, not to long ago as well. I've yet to see Requiem for a Dream though, I'll have to check that out sometime for sure.

I saw The Road a couple months ago for the first time, also liked it, and saw Moon not too long prior to that as well.

As for my recent movies, I was looking up a movie that I just couldn't remember the name of or the plot, it was like some vague memory of it in my head and I came across a post about the movie Memento (great movie, by the way) and some movies that were similar to it, hoping to find this movie I was thinking about. No luck, though fortunately I discovered the movies Dark City, The Machinist, Jacob's Ladder, Primer, and Identity. Each of them had some similarities to them like they were some kind of thriller and had something supernatural or psychological to them as well. I'd recommend you guys check those out if you haven't seen them already.

Going along with Dark City, I've also been a bit interested in seeing more dystopian movies lately, so I also watched Equilibrium. I'll probably check out more too.

I really should've included The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption and Braveheart in my list :( they were amazing films.

Cloverfield I actually found to be pretty good, probably because it did a better job then the 2000 version of Godzilla did with the whole "giant monster in new york" thing ;)
Paranormal Activity is in that list because I was blown away with how they managed to pull off some if not most of the action scenes (especially the footprints on the floor scene)

I was born in 1986 :P and the very first movie I remember watching when I was about...4 or 5 called "The Pupper Master" which had these living dolls going around killing people. Everysingle night since then for about 8 years I just stared at the landing out of my door making sure this puppet with a drill for a head didn't in to kill me :P

lol im from 82 and i did the same for the first child's play movies! btw i love puppet master.
but cloverfield was one of those movies that tries and messes up to me... they tried to be war of the worlds, but they found out the handheld camera gimmick worked for blair witch project. and then they messed it up by making a lot of logical mistakes... i can get into that if you want, but wont now...
im not the kind of person to look for reason in movies, but when they do things wrong it can really ... itch me ... somehow.. cant really explain why, but you either do things right by thinking about what youre trying to do or 'i ask you politely' please dont do it...

paranormal activity i might have enjoyed more if i hadnt watched it with a friend who will never in his life believe that anything like that could ever happen... even remotely, ghosts dont exist and he is done with that there and then. he is offcourse right, but its simply not so scary anymore if you say stuff like: "hey curtains dont move like that by themselves"

also i saw the movie 'gattaca' in one of these lists and that got me thinking about the fact i still havent seen 'in time', so i got it now... havent watched it yet, so no spoilers plz, but im really curious about that one too!

edit: the green mile, shawshank redemption and braveheart added to mine too!
also, anyone like the over the top crappy, gory, politically incorrect movies? planet terror being a fairly recent and popular one?

Watched Iron Sky twice recently. It is an absolute masterpiece, have a look:

Yes those are space Nazis. Yes they are fighting Sarah Palin a U.S. president who looks and acts exactly like Sarah Palin but totally isn't because that'd be illegal or something. Yes they parody the famous Downfall scene. Yes, they make reference to Dr. Strangelove. It is perfect in every way.

Good luck finding it, though.

Incidentally, the moon-nazi fleet would make an interesting mod for SoaSE. Some kind of bonus on dwarf planets. Flying-saucer fighters/frigates, space-zeppelin super-carrier capital ships, meteorblitzkriegs, and the Titan Götterdämmerung.

that made me think of the +10 i give to the movie sno (the O should have a diagonal stripe through it since its a scandinavian movie) just because they introduced the nazi zombies into a movie!
