Question: I was curious if the commander will have actual control over the minions as far as attack commands and placement (I do recall reading they can be assigned to the champions but it didn't seem very specific on other kinds of assignment).

Answer: "To answer this question we have to first identify what a “minion” is. In Sins of a Dark Age there are different kinds of minions – Wave Minions, Commander Minions and Hero Minions.

Wave minions are the autonomous chaff that spawn regularly from specified points on the map and follow specified paths to attack the enemy. The Commander has no control over these units however he does options to upgrade, buff and change the composition of these waves. Commander Minions are spawned by the Commander at one of several valid locations on the map. Once they are spawned, the Commander can bandbox them and control them directly with such commands as attack, move and follow. The follow command is special in that if they are told to follow a Hero they will automatically behave intelligently with that Hero instead of just blindly following him and ignoring everything else going on. This has also been described as “attaching” units to the Hero.

Hero Minions are only available to special Heroes. This Hero has a limited set of controls over these units such as move and attack. He can also set the default behavior of these units such as Defensive, Passive and Aggressive."

Good question! Continue the discussion below, what do you think of the 3 forms of minions?

Interesting... So can the heroes give the minions following them basic commands(attack this jungle creep while I fight the one next to it, or retreat with me{instead of attacking nearby creatures as you run near them})

And on the note of hero minions; yeah!! we will have heroes that can create their own minions! While I am more fascinated by the commander role I always have fun with heroes I can spawn minions from to get a mini commander feel ( I realize that it will likely be like three minions but it is still fun)

I think it would be really cool if the heros themselves had limited control over the commander minions assigned to follow them. I don't mean direct control as in move and attack commands but more like behavior macros. For example, a hero could tell all minions assigned to him to attack his target or attack the weakest target or attack only structures when possible. It would also be nice if a hero could stop minions from following him so that he can do things like stealth or ambush. I think this would help a lot for commanders who are bad at micro or are experiencing latency issues.

If the commanders are bad at micro or just don't want to micro their minions, that is what the "attach/follow" feature is for. I'm guessing only the commander can "unattach" them though so it would require some communication if that hero wants to go solo to stealth/ambush. The heros who can spawn minions remind of "Generals" from Demigod - weaker and less tanky but able to get their own little gang of gremlins.

Hmm, it's cool that we now have more of an idea what the minions are and so forth but my question is how will these minions be handled? Will the hero spawned ones have limited life span? Will the chaff be OP or just struggling to keep up with the other types? How will the dev's balence the minions to make each one viable? Hopefully beta will answer these questions but now it is a concept surronded in mystery.
