"This is an early concept for our Imperial foot soldier.  We decided to break away from the typical armed medieval look and introduce something novel. This particular look was inspired by traditional Tibetan warrior dress found on the cover of an old book.  In the early days of the project we researched the dress, colors, and decorative styles of more than 50 distinct cultures all over the world. The gritty ragtag look of this outfit seemed fitting for a low level soldier in turbulent times." - Craig Fraser, Creative Director at Ironclad Games.

I think this piece of art was created early on in the process of making the game. I am certain a variant of this guy will appear in the game somehow.

Just to add to Michael's post, I did this concept back in 2009, and it was modelled, animated, and implemented into the game. But as the game is always evolving it did go through some minor changes and the concept was revisited, and was remodelled and animated again.

You can see the most recent version of the Foot Soldier in the screenshot that follows this concept (in the Media section), they are just behind the peg leg guy.

Its a great looking soldier type ! He has a rugged face but still clean shaved and helmet polished like a newly drafted soldier..

But I personally don't like it, even though it is good.. I think im more to what the cavalry/knight unit looks like, Its more what I feel suits me. Will you do more skins and models, so the units can be more suited to each player or is it more strictly that this is what it will look like ?

I just wonder because im so excited in playing this game and Im such a guy that really cares about how my warriors look. Because I always want to have the feeling that these warriors are my warriors =)

Though I will certainly be pleased in every possible way, as I said it looks good. But it just doesn't suit me, really amazing with the simple but important details. Good Job !

It seems likely that there will be a base foot soldier look, but that you will be able to buy skins and such to alter the appearance of your units while you are the commander. This will likely be one of the things that one must pay real life money for
