Im so excited about the creatures!
I really hate how all LoL champs are vanilla boobchicks. Controlling cool things like dragons and other creatures will be super awesome will be among one of the many things that will set this game apart

I'm really excited to see what they come up with for heroes. Like you, I'm not a fan of the style LoL has, I much prefer something along the line of Demigod. Judging by the concept art, I think the overall look of the game will be less cartoony.

You guessed correctly Wunderbar_007, the game will be less cartoony. Given the camera angle and distance, some exaggerations are necessary  for differentiating units, but I would label the art style as 'surreal'.

will this be the ultimate compromise?

Just don't go the demigod route of making your production values so high that you can't afford to keep providing content at a reasonable rate. I think that's part of why LoL has done so well.

I think you have to make a certain sacrifice in realistic aesthetics in order to have unique, easily identifiable game elements. StarCraft II and LoL both distinguish various units by giving each one a very distinct look. This usually means vibrant colors and exaggerated characters. Properly communicating information to players with the least amount of effort on the player's part is vitally important to have good gameplay.

Awesome! Now I really can't wait to see what this looks like in game!

I like the 'cartoony' graphics of LoL quite a bit. Especially when compared to HoN, which tried to make a more realistic feel to their game. It's much easier to distinguish units in LoL than it is HoN and I hope this game takes a similar approach.

I think the art style is pretty much set at this point...

True, but it's never too late to touch things up a bit. They've said somewhere that the beta will probably be at least a year and maybe longer. The kind of changes I was talking about can certainly be made in that timeframe with the budget I'm assuming they have.

I guess the Surreal look will be nice. In fact I like the idea of a surreal point.

Anyway, I do agree I don't like controling all kinda of weird looking females with...oversized breast. That does not make a character.

DeadDove, I do hope the beta is at least a year. A nice fleshed out beta should help the game.

So we are going to have a full blown walking castle as a hero? (( OH, YES!))

PS: I know I am just going into the wishful zone.

I second that! I would love a mobile castle thats not a metaphorical castle.

However yes I hope we don't fall into the organic colors. as long as the colors allow us too determine what is what I will be happy.

Only a couple have been "Vanilla boobchicks" (Sejuani being a prime example) but you cannot deny that the majority are not generic at all, Cho'Gath, Amumu, Shyvana, Blitzcrank, Heimerdinger, Lux are nothing like the generic type and that is just naming a few of them.

I do agree though that the Commander position will set this game apart from all the rest, hopefully in a great way!

I would LOVE to see a giant walking castle again like Rook but, obivously a bit different as I don't want to see copies of other characters you have had in Demigod.

The Rook was definitely one of my favorite guys in Demigod (and I have a miniature version of him as well) but just to be clear, we (Ironclad) didn't make Demigod. Demigod was developed by Gas Powered Games and was published by Stardock.

I honestly didn't get around to playing Demigod outside of the Demo as I heard alot of people just kept playing certain demigods and nothing else which isn't what I thought was fun (especially since you only got 10 to pick from)

The surreal art style should really bring this game both vibrancy and a unique look--I'm really excited to see some screenshots!! Maybe next week?....

With the risk of sounding like a 16 year old, "boobchicks" can be cool too tbh, and sinister, and dark, en violent :) just take a look at witch elf and female sorcerer concept art (certain mmo which has the medevil grimdark feeling ;))

Aww..I was liking all your other post till I saw this one..The problem I have is I hate "Boob chicks" they are just for sexual appeal in games and often are over powered on intent too reinforce it more. I think we are going down the path of being super minions for a team.

Haha, sorry  ;)
I am against overpowered! the idea of being superminions instead of hypercarries appeals to me a lot, though ;)

Let me nuance what i said a bit: I am not in favour of "boobchicks" as a means of catering to the young adult public, but just as with paintings and other artforms, it can be used to convey a certain feeling or mood :) You won't see me gawking at Ashe from LoL for example, but I do like the mood surrounding witch elves' concept art feeling (at least some of them). They convey the same mood and feel vampires do in settings like Vampire: The Masquerade (a tabletop RPG) and the Anne Rice novels (for me at least).
Hope that makes it better, and else we'll just have to disagree on this one ;)
