Will our forum names be the ones used in game? I was disappointed that my usual in game name was too long to fit for your registration (17-18 characters), which I really don't care about for the forums but if I can't have a name that long in game that will be disappointing.

Well, it all depends I guess. We haven't seen the game client interface yet. I know in World of Tanks your forum name was your in game name, but that is a different game, client, and website setup than this is so far.


Edit: I found this in the FAQ.
"How do I reserve my favorite game name?
Register now at sinsofadarkage.com and be sure to tell your friends so they don't lose their favorite game name either."

Without a Dev confirming or denying, I would seem to suggest that our forum name will be our game name.

There is a lot to be said for splitting forum names and game names, especially public forums. If they are the same, it allows people to attempt brute force attacks by attempting common passwords across all accounts gleaned from the forum, allows more information on a particular user to be used to attempt an attack, and also has double the opportunity for an exploit to leak sensitive information (through hacking the forum, or through hacking the game).

Most MMO forums force the accounts to be different, but allow some form of account linking for internal bug reports or vanity titles.

That's what I did, and low and behold its my forum name. I realize all you Sins people know me by this, but in game I'd like to use my main online gaming name, and currently I can't do that because they limit them to 16 characters. I want my dead enemies ot fear me by my true name!

Well at registration you have type in the "Player name:" ...i think that explains it all dont u?

Currently we aren't planning on increasing the maximum forum name characters. Because as Craig mentioned, your forum name will be your game name and changing the max name lengths would have repercussions in-game, and the current max length has been taken into consideration in design related decisions.

That was not the case when I signed up. They later made it more clear.

Well that is disappointing, and kind of odd since most online games seem to let you have at least 32. But thank you for taking the time to answer my actual concern.

Most games limit you too 6-12 characters.

Well if you play a lot of MMOs pay too play and free too play a 6-12 limit is the most common, Even more so on those that are translated too support western languages. Thanatological is my meta handle. I can't use it in many games so I often find myself using other names.
