Hello Quinn! I was just thinking about the art on here when I noticed your post. I like the MoorVeric and the Siege Dragon so far. I was wondering though when it comes to units and player models will you be tilting towards the fantasy style or realistic style?

Hi Tearien,

The units are based in a surreal, fantasy setting. The character art you see so far on this site is a good indication of the style you will see in game.

Thanks for question!

Quinn

Hey Quinn, having worked at other games companies I have a question regarding pipeline and nuts and bolts stuff (If you're allowed to answer, not sure. Some companies are really tight-lipped about this sort of thing).

What tools do you guys use at Ironclad? Do you guys tend to use Adobe's suite for the concept art stuff? What tablets do you tend to prefer to work with?

Are you guys a 3ds house, or Maya?

Game written using mostly C++, or is it scripting (LUA?) based using a framework?

Do you guys use any version control software? I'll admit...I'm a bit biased about the last as I work for a company that does SCM software, and if you guys are willing I'd love to pick someone's brain about how you guys came to the decision to use which software.

Anywho, if you can, I'd love to hear about your guys' setup and how it's all working for you!

Thanks,
Astorax

Edit: After reading, realize it may sound like I work for another games company and I'm digging for info. I do not currently work for any games company, nor am I with the media. I'm asking mostly out of curiousity.

Hi Astorax,

All the concept work I do is done with Abobe Photoshop CS5 and a Wacom Cintiq 21UX.

I use Photoshop to paint in because I was using it when I worked as a Compositor, so I was already very familar with it when I made the transition to working as a Concept Artist.

As far as the Programming side of the pipline, you would be better off asking someone like Blair (Fraser) as he could give you a more accurate answer.

Thanks for the question!

Quinn

Looking to see more work from you guys. Interesting concepts you have decided to go.

Btw Quinn, I love your other work but the last stand work is killing me. Doesnt look up to par with your other work IMO :(

Whats the usual turn around for you getting a concept done?

Glad to see you're usin Perforce. :) That's the company I work for. If you guys have any questions/comments/features you're missing but want, you should totally let me know (I forgot to look if there were private messages on the boards yet or not). Our tech support's awesome, but I love to hear things first hand (I'm one of the devs). :)

It's great to see fantasy art work that is original and descriptive. More often than not, fantasy games and their art work are both very stagnant. You have a lot of identifiable marks (dragons, knights, demon-guy) but they have their own defining traits (metal mask on knight, i.e).

If the art on the main page is any sign of things to come, then count me in!

@Astro Thanks for the feedback!  The usual turn around time for a concept varies. They can take anywhere from a couple of hours to a week, it all depends on the complexity of the design. Characters usually take up to week, including orthos (front, back and side views).

@Astorax Glad I could help out, thanks again!

@Seven Thank you! That's nice to hear!

Hello again everyone, I just thought I would bring this topic back up for any new members that may have not seen it.

I am still open to any questions you may have about the art side of Sins of a Dark Age now that more artwork and screenshots have been released.

Cheers,
Quinn
